The Mom Guilt Podcast: A Journey to Wellness and Prioritization

Welcome to the Mom Guilt podcast, where we explore the tools and systems to help you navigate the challenges of motherhood and prioritize your own well-being. I'm Vanna, your host, a former dermatology nurse practitioner turned wellness enthusiast. In this episode, we're doing something different. I asked my Instagram followers to ask me anything, and I'll be answering their questions in a freestyle Q&A format. So let's dive in and explore a range of topics, from skincare to personal goals and parenting.

The Power of Medical Grade Skincare

One of the questions I received was about my opinion on medical grade skincare. Medical grade skincare refers to products that are usually only available in doctors' offices or med spas. These products often have more potent ingredients and extensive research to back their efficacy. While there are great medical grade skincare products out there, I believe that there are also affordable options available at drugstores and online. It's not necessary to invest in expensive medical grade products if they don't fit your budget. What matters most is finding products that work for your skin and align with your values.

Personal Goals for the Year

When it comes to personal goals, I'm feeling a shift towards a more holistic and root cause approach, especially in treating acne. I want to go beyond prescribing medications and address the underlying causes of acne flares. I'm focusing on educating myself and becoming certified in analyzing blood chemistries to identify the root cause of acne in women of all ages. By addressing the root cause, we can provide more effective and long-lasting solutions for acne sufferers.

As a couple, our goal for the year is to focus on our finances and prepare ourselves for investing in real estate and other ventures to diversify our funds. We want to create a secure financial future for our family. In terms of parenting, we're facing challenges with one of our children who has difficulty processing emotions. Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment for him to navigate his feelings and develop healthy coping mechanisms.

The Role of Accutane in Skincare

Accutane is a powerful medication used to treat severe acne. While it can be effective, it's important to use it safely and under the guidance of a healthcare professional. Accutane should only be prescribed after considering the potential risks and benefits. However, I've noticed a trend where people are prescribed Accutane multiple times without addressing the root cause of their acne. This is something I want to change in my practice by focusing on holistic treatments and addressing the underlying factors contributing to acne.

Adjusting to Two Children

Transitioning from one to two children can be challenging, as you never get a break anymore. Communication is key in managing the demands of parenting multiple children. It's important to communicate with your partner and express when you need a break or support. Taking time for yourself and practicing self-care is crucial in maintaining your well-being as a parent. Additionally, recognizing that each child is unique and may require different approaches to emotional support can help create a harmonious family dynamic.

Embracing Natural Beauty and Aging

As a skincare enthusiast, I've experimented with various treatments, including Botox and fillers. However, I've recently taken a step back from these procedures. I've become more comfortable with my natural appearance and have embraced the idea of aging gracefully. While I still use some treatments, I focus on subtle and natural enhancements rather than completely altering my appearance. It's important to find a balance that aligns with your values and makes you feel confident and comfortable in your own skin.

The Evolution of Dermatology Practice

In my practice, I still work in dermatology, but I'm also exploring a more holistic approach to skincare. I've realized the importance of addressing the root cause of skin issues rather than solely relying on topical treatments. This year, I'm expanding my services to offer holistic treatments for acne and becoming certified in analyzing blood chemistries to identify underlying factors contributing to skin conditions. By taking a more comprehensive approach, I hope to provide my patients with long-lasting solutions and improve their overall well-being.
